The HERTEL 1001403 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Manufactured to TPMT style geometry, this insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation, making it suitable for both external and internal turning operations. The HC335 grade carbide substrate is CVD-coated with a three-layer TiC, TiCN, and TiN coating system, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert is well suited for medium-duty finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel and stainless workpieces.
This insert is intended for use in turning applications involving primary workpiece material grade P (carbon and alloy steels) and secondary material grade M (stainless steels), corresponding to material grades C5 and C6. It is held in place by a screw-clamp toolholder and is compatible with TPMT-style insert pockets. The T-style chip breaker geometry assists in controlling chip flow during continuous turning passes. Typical users include CNC machinists, tool and die shops, and production turning operations in industrial manufacturing environments.
Designed for use in TPMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with clearance code P and tolerance code M. Compatible with C5 and C6 material grade cutting applications on carbon alloy steels and stainless steels.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with indexable insert tooling. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to ensure proper seating without damaging the insert or pocket. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before installing a new insert.
