The HERTEL 1001246 is a TPMT-style solid carbide turning insert with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating applied via PVD process. Designated grade HC210, this insert features a 60-degree triangular shape, positive rake geometry, and neutral hand orientation. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, the corner radius is 0.031 inches, and the insert length is 0.433 inches (11 mm). It is designed for screw-on holding and delivers controlled chip formation through its T-series chip breaker. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning applications install this insert on compatible toolholders for finishing and semi-finishing cuts on a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for turning operations on stainless steel (M), non-ferrous materials (N), heat-resistant superalloys (S), and cast iron (K) as secondary. It fits standard TPMT-style screw-on toolholders used in CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Typical applications include light to moderate material removal where tight tolerances and a controlled surface finish are required. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.049 inches), making it most appropriate for finishing passes rather than heavy roughing.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production replenishment insert for TPMT-style screw-on toolholders. Compatible with workpiece material codes M, N, S (primary) and K (secondary), corresponding to stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, superalloys, and cast iron. Material grades C2 and C4 are applicable.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out per your facility safety protocol. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw to seat the insert without overtightening, which can crack the carbide substrate. Verify toolholder pocket condition and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before indexing or replacing the insert.
