Product Description

The HERTEL 1001226 is a DCMT-style screw-on turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Ground from solid carbide stock and finished with a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, this insert carries manufacturer grade HC335 for extended tool life and heat resistance at cutting depth. The 55-degree diamond shape provides a sharp, low-force cutting geometry suited to finish and semi-finish passes. Key dimensional specs include a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 3/32-inch insert thickness, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. It is installed and serviced by machinists and toolroom technicians working in metal-cutting production environments.

This insert is rated for use on steels (ISO P) as primary workpiece material and stainless and heat-resistant alloys (ISO M) as secondary workpiece material, corresponding to material grades C5 and C6. Typical applications include finish turning of mild and alloy steels on screw-on toolholders that accept DCMT geometry inserts with a 0.1102-inch hole diameter. Maximum recommended depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The neutral hand geometry allows use in both left- and right-hand toolholder orientations where the DCMT form factor is specified.

Key Features

  • HC335 grade solid carbide substrate with CVD-applied TiC, TiCN, and TiN multilayer coating for heat and wear resistance
  • 55-degree diamond insert shape (DCMT) with positive rake geometry for reduced cutting forces on finish passes
  • 1/64-inch corner radius for tight-tolerance shoulder and profile work
  • Screw-on holding method with 0.1102-inch hole diameter for secure seating in compatible toolholders
  • Neutral hand orientation compatible with left- and right-hand setups
  • T-style chip breaker geometry for chip control in steel and stainless turning applications

Compatibility

Designed for use in screw-on DCMT-style toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.1102-inch screw hole. Suitable for ISO P (steel) and ISO M (stainless and heat-resistant alloy) workpiece materials at material grades C5 and C6.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Disengage the machine spindle and confirm all axes are at a safe position before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified for the toolholder screw to avoid stripping the insert seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket and shim for chips or damage before seating the new insert, as debris under the insert will affect surface finish and tool life.
