The HERTEL 1001205 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured in the TPU323 style with an HC335 grade designation, this insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for improved wear resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. The triangular insert geometry provides three usable cutting edges and is suited for general-purpose turning operations. It is installed and maintained by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is designed for turning applications where a positive rake, neutral-hand, 60-degree triangle insert with a clamp-style holding method is required. With a corner radius of 0.047 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.049 inches, it is well matched to finishing and light to medium roughing passes. Primary workpiece material compatibility is classified as P-grade steels, with secondary compatibility for M-grade stainless steels. The insert belongs to the KENDEX series and carries Material Grade designations C5 and C6.
Designed for use with KENDEX series toolholders accepting TPU-style, 60-degree triangular turning inserts with a clamp holding method. Suitable for P-grade carbon and alloy steels as the primary workpiece material and M-grade stainless steels as a secondary workpiece material.
Indexable insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the KENDEX series toolholder to seat the insert securely without over-clamping. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or damage before seating a new insert. Worn or chipped inserts should be indexed or replaced before re-entering a cut to avoid workpiece damage and unsafe tool deflection.
