The HERTEL 1001180 is a DNMG431F style indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating applied via PVD process. Designed for use in CNC and manual turning operations, this insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch (0.0160 inch) corner radius. The HC210 grade solid carbide substrate combined with the TiN coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability during metal cutting. It is suited for machinists and toolroom technicians working in production turning environments on lathes requiring DNMG-style toolholders.
This insert is intended for turning applications on primary workpiece materials classified as M (stainless steel), N (non-ferrous), and S (superalloys and high-temperature alloys), with secondary suitability for K (cast iron) materials. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right-hand and left-hand toolholder setups. The G-style chip breaker geometry is suited for light to medium depth-of-cut passes, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inch (1.25 mm). Typical applications include OD turning, facing, and light profiling operations in job shop and production machining environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for DNMG-style turning toolholders accepting a 55-degree diamond insert with a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, Tolerance Code M, and Clearance Code N. Consult your toolholder documentation to confirm DNMG431 seat compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and seating procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the manufacturer-specified depth of cut or feed rate for this insert grade and geometry.
