Product Description

The HERTEL 1000715 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPU222 style, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN under manufacturer grade HC335, providing wear resistance and heat management during moderate to high-speed cuts. The insert is triangular with a 60-degree included angle, a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, an insert length of 0.4331 inches (11 mm), and a corner radius of 0.0312 inches (1/32 inch). The neutral hand orientation suits a wide range of toolholder setups. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments.

This insert is suited for turning operations on ferrous metals, including steel and stainless steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and M. The KENDEX series design uses a clamp-style holding method with a positive rake geometry, which reduces cutting forces and helps maintain surface finish on medium-depth passes. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). It fits toolholders and boring bars dimensioned for TPU-style inserts with a 0.25 inch inscribed circle.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide substrate with CVD-applied TiC, TiCN, and TiN multilayer coating for extended tool life
  • HC335 manufacturer grade rated for ISO P and M material groups (steel and stainless steel)
  • 60-degree triangular insert shape (T) with neutral hand orientation for versatile toolholder compatibility
  • Positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces on medium finishing and semi-finishing passes
  • Clamp-style holding method (clearance code P, tolerance code U) for secure seating in compatible toolholders
  • Maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm) appropriate for finishing and light semi-finishing applications

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use insert for toolholders and boring bars accepting TPU-style triangular inserts with a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, clearance code P, and tolerance code U. Compatible with ISO material groups P and M workpiece materials per the manufacturer grade HC335 designation.

Installation Notes

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert properly — do not over-tighten the clamp, as this can chip the carbide. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris before seating a new insert. Follow the machine tool builder and shop safety protocols when resuming cutting operations.
