The HERTEL 1000697 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPMT2151LF geometry, manufactured to grade HC335 with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle and an 11-degree relief angle, delivering a combination of edge sharpness and flank wear resistance suited to finishing and semi-finishing operations. At 0.25 inches inscribed circle and 11 millimeters in length, this is a compact, screw-on style insert designed for use in compatible TPMT-style toolholders. Installation and use are handled by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO P and M material groups. The HC335 grade and CVD multilayer coating make it well suited for continuous and light interrupted cuts at moderate to higher cutting speeds. The T-style chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation during finishing passes. The screw-on holding method provides secure clamping in standard TPMT-compatible toolholders used on CNC lathes and manual turning centers.
Designed as a screw-on replacement insert for TPMT-style toolholders compatible with the TPMT21.51 insert size code. Suitable for ISO P (steel) and M (stainless steel) primary and secondary workpiece materials. Material grade equivalents C5 and C6 apply.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped before accessing the toolholder. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat and torque the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamp force. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert. Verify insert orientation and chip breaker direction before returning the machine to service.
