The HERTEL 1000692 is a TPGT-style triangular turning insert designed for precision external turning and finishing operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied titanium nitride (TiN) coating under the HC210 grade designation, this insert delivers consistent edge performance across a range of workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard screw-on toolholders. Key dimensional specs include a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch corner radius, and an insert length of 16.50 mm. The screw-on holding method provides secure, repeatable seating in compatible TPGT toolholders used by machinists and toolroom operators.
This insert is suited for finishing and light roughing applications on stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys, corresponding to ISO workpiece material groups M, N, and S as primary targets, with group K as a secondary application. The 60-degree triangular geometry, positive rake, and 11-degree relief angle make it well matched for low-force cutting and tight-tolerance turning. A maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm makes this insert most effective in finishing and semi-finishing passes. It is commonly used in aerospace, general machining, and production turning environments where dimensional accuracy is critical.

Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and in a locked-out, energy-isolated state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to tighten the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Confirm insert orientation and hand designation match the toolholder before engaging the workpiece.
