The HERTEL 1000685 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG220 style, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured to the KENDEX series specification, it features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiN coating over a solid carbide substrate graded HC210. The insert has a 60-degree triangular shape with an 11-degree relief angle, a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 0.433-inch length, and a 0.004-inch corner radius. It is neutral-hand, meaning it is suitable for both left- and right-hand toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible TPG-style clamp-type toolholders for turning applications requiring wear resistance and dimensional consistency.
This insert is rated for use on stainless steel (M), non-ferrous metals (N), heat-resistant superalloys (S), and cast iron (K) workpiece materials per ISO material group codes. The HC210 grade with TiN coating performs well in light to medium finishing cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.049 inches (1.25 mm). It is suited to both production and maintenance machining environments, including job shops and manufacturing facilities running general-purpose turning operations. The KENDEX series designation applies to the toolholder compatibility family for this insert geometry.
Designed for use in TPG-style clamp-type toolholders within the KENDEX series. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 60-degree triangular (T) insert with Tolerance Code G and Clearance Code P geometry.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Use the appropriate clamp screw torque as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Verify insert seating in the pocket before resuming cuts, and inspect the insert edge condition regularly to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
