The HERTEL 1000680 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG323 style, designed for precision metal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert carries a TiN coating applied via PVD process, which improves surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated carbide. It features a 60-degree triangular shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64-inch corner radius. The insert is neutral hand, meaning it is compatible with both right-hand and left-hand toolholders that accept the TPG seat configuration. This is part of the KENDEX series and is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
This insert is suited for turning applications on a range of workpiece materials including stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO material groups M, N, and S, with secondary suitability for cast materials in group K. It is used in production and job-shop turning environments where a consistent, replaceable insert with predictable tool life is required. The positive rake geometry and clearance code P support efficient chip formation and reduced cutting forces on compatible materials.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for TPG323-style toolholders and cartridges that accept a triangular insert with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and clamp-style retention. Compatible with holders referencing clearance code P and tolerance code G. Material grades C2 and C4 apply.
Installation should be performed by a machinist or toolroom technician familiar with indexable insert toolholders. Ensure the lathe spindle is fully stopped and locked out before seating or indexing the insert. Verify the insert pocket and clamping hardware are free of chips and debris before seating to ensure proper insert contact and prevent premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications for the clamp screw.
