The HERTEL 1000656 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the WPMT insert style with an 80-degree trigon shape, this insert carries a TiN (titanium nitride) coating applied via PVD process, improving surface hardness and wear resistance. The inscribed circle measures 3/16 inches (0.1875 inches), insert length is 0.128 inches, and the corner radius is 1/64 inches (0.0156 inches). Insert thickness is 5/64 inches (0.0781 inches). A screw-holding method and clearance code P with tolerance code M ensure consistent, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for turning applications across a range of workpiece materials. Primary workpiece material classifications are M (stainless steel), N (non-ferrous metals), and S (high-temperature alloys and titanium). Secondary workpiece material classification is K (cast iron). The HC210 manufacturer grade with C2 and C4 material grades positions this insert for general-purpose to semi-finish turning passes. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to both left- and right-hand toolholder configurations. It is typically used in production-volume turning environments where consistent tool life and dimensional accuracy are required.
Designed for use in WPMT-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 3/16-inch inscribed circle trigon insert. Compatible workpiece material classifications include M, N, S (primary) and K (secondary) per ISO turning material groups.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw into the toolholder pocket — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamp force. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
