The HERTEL 1000608 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It carries the CPGM2151 style designation with an HC210 manufacturer grade and a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiN coating applied over the carbide substrate. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a 1/64-inch corner radius, making it suited for general-purpose turning passes where controlled chip formation and edge stability are required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a direct replacement or initial setup component in screw-clamped toolholders.
This insert is intended for turning operations on stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and cast materials, corresponding to workpiece material classifications M, N, S, and K. The neutral hand designation means it performs equally in right-hand or left-hand toolholder configurations. The M-style chip breaker geometry supports medium-depth finishing and semi-finishing passes. Typical applications include OD turning, facing, and light profiling on production and job-shop lathes where consistent surface finish and tool life are priorities.
Designed for use in CPGM-style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 3/32-inch thick diamond insert. Compatible with toolholder systems specifying Insert Style CPGM and Size Code 21.51. Material grades C2 and C4 apply per standard carbide classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver for the clamping screw to ensure proper seating without cracking the carbide body. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
