The HERTEL 1000605 is a solid carbide turning insert with a CPGT3251LF geometry and HC210 manufacturer grade. It features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiN coating over a solid carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and edge retention in general turning applications. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape (ANSI shape code C), a 3/8-inch inscribed circle (0.3750 inches), and a neutral hand orientation. Insert length is 9.67 mm (0.3807 inches) with a 5/32-inch thickness and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The screw-on holding method provides secure seating in compatible toolholders. This insert is installed by machinists and turning center operators on CNC and manual lathes.
This insert is suited for turning operations on stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, aluminum alloys, and high-temperature alloys — corresponding to ISO workpiece material groups M, N, S, and K. The positive rake geometry and T-style chip breaker reduce cutting forces and help manage chip flow on medium to light finishing passes. Typical applications include outer diameter turning, facing, and light profiling where a sharp, coated carbide edge is required. The screw-on series mounting style is compatible with standard CPGT-style toolholders.
Designed for use in CPGT-style screw-on turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter. Compatible workpiece materials include ISO groups M (stainless steel), N (non-ferrous), S (high-temperature alloys), and K (cast iron). Material grades C2 and C4 apply.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is placed in a safe, locked-out state per shop safety procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the insert screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating method — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide insert. Verify insert seating and tool overhang before resuming cutting operations.
