The HERTEL 1000456 is a DPMT-style solid carbide turning insert with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating applied via PVD process. Designed for screw-on toolholders, it features a 55-degree diamond insert shape with a positive rake geometry and neutral hand orientation. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (0.375 inches), the insert length is 0.4579 inches (11.63 mm), and the corner radius is 1/64 inch (0.016 inches). The HC210 grade designation indicates a fine-grain carbide substrate suited to a range of turning applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible screw-on toolholder systems for precision turning operations.
This insert is suited for turning operations on stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys, corresponding to ISO workpiece material categories M, N, and S as primary materials, and cast iron (category K) as a secondary material. The maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), making this insert appropriate for finishing and light semi-finishing passes. It is used in production and job-shop environments on CNC lathes and manual turning centers where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required.
Designed for use in screw-on DPMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle diamond insert. Compatible with material grades C2 and C4 applications. Suitable for workpiece material categories M, N, and S (primary) and K (secondary) per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is removed or the turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified method without overtightening, which can crack the carbide. Inspect the insert seat and shim for debris or damage before seating the new insert.
