The HERTEL 1000407 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SPMR422 style, designed for precision metal-turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. This uncoated insert carries the HT10 manufacturer grade and features a 90-degree square shape with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch (0.0312 inch) corner radius. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for both left- and right-hand toolholders. Clamped into a compatible toolholder, it delivers a positive rake geometry and an 11-degree relief angle, reducing cutting forces and heat buildup during finishing and semi-finishing passes. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert belongs to the HERTEL KENDEX series and is intended for turning applications on non-ferrous metals and stainless or alloyed steels. Primary workpiece material classifications are N and S; secondary classifications are K and M, covering cast iron and medium-carbon alloy steels. The maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inch (1.25 mm), making this insert best suited for finishing and light semi-finishing operations rather than heavy roughing. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units per order.
Designed for use in SPMR-style clamp-type toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle square insert. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry, seating angle, and clamp type before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down, spindle locked, and all guards in place. Use the correct torque for the clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the pocket seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow applicable shop safety and machine-guarding standards during service.
