The HERTEL 1000218 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision lathe and turning center operations. Manufactured to the TCMT3252LF style designation with a grade of HC335, this insert features a triple-layer CVD coating — TiC, TiCN, and TiN — applied over a solid carbide substrate. The neutral hand orientation and positive rake geometry make it suitable for a wide range of external turning and profiling passes. At 0.6496 inches in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert fits standard screw-on toolholders and delivers consistent edge performance across moderate to high cutting speeds.
This insert is rated for primary use on P-group steels and secondary use on M-group stainless steels, making it a practical choice for job shops and production turning operations handling mixed material workloads. The TCMT geometry is commonly used in finish and semi-finish turning applications where secure screw-on clamping is required. The 60-degree triangular insert shape provides three usable cutting edges per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists will recognize the HC335 grade as suited for continuous to lightly interrupted cuts in ferrous materials.
Designed for use in screw-on TCMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with C5 and C6 material grade toolholder recommendations. Suitable for P-group steel as primary workpiece material and M-group stainless steel as secondary workpiece material.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of debris before installing the insert. Tighten the screw-on clamp to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts.
