The HERTEL 1000190 is a right-hand MTJN-style indexable turning toolholder with a negative rake geometry, designed for use on CNC and manual lathes in metal-turning operations. It features a 1 x 1 inch square shank and an overall length of 6 inches, making it a standard-size holder suited for common lathe turret positions. The holder accepts TN..33. series triangular inserts secured by a combination clamp and screw holding method, providing rigid clamping force and repeatable insert positioning. Constructed from steel, this toolholder is built for production turning environments where insert changes and consistent edge presentation are a regular part of the workflow. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This toolholder is intended for external turning applications on steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpieces where a negative rake insert geometry is preferred for edge strength and tool life. The MTJN style provides a 3-degree lead angle, which helps control chip direction and reduces radial cutting forces in straight turning and facing passes. It is well suited for both roughing and finishing passes depending on the insert grade selected. The holder does not support coolant-through delivery, so flood or mist coolant must be applied externally at the cutting zone.
Designed to accept TN..33. series triangular indexable inserts with a 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch) inscribed circle, specifically compatible with complete insert designation TN.. 332. Verify insert pocket and screw compatibility before mixing insert brands.
This toolholder is installed and serviced by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before mounting or removing the holder, ensure the lathe spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state per your facility lockout/tagout procedure. Torque the turret clamp bolts evenly and confirm the shank is fully seated in the turret pocket before operation. Do not exceed the insert manufacturer's recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the selected insert grade.
