The HERTEL 1000161 is a neutral-hand MTEN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for general-purpose external turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It features a negative rake geometry with a -10 degree rake angle, which provides added edge strength and is well suited for harder work materials and interrupted cuts. The shank measures 1.25 inches wide by 1.25 inches tall with an overall length of 6 inches. The toolholder accepts TN..54. series inserts, secured by a clamp and screw holding method. It is constructed from steel and is intended for installation by machinists and toolroom professionals.
This toolholder is suited for medium to heavy-duty turning applications in production and job-shop environments. The neutral hand orientation allows use on either side of the centerline, offering flexibility in setup. With a 6-inch overall length and a head length of 1.64 inches, it fits standard tool posts and turrets configured for 1.25-inch square shank tooling. The back-of-bar to cutting edge measurement is 0.625 inches. This is a single-use toolholder and is not configured as a multi-use tool. It does not include coolant-through capability.
Designed to accept TN.. 543 series inserts (complete insert compatibility per manufacturer specifications). Fits standard tool posts and turrets configured for a 1.25-inch square shank. Manufacturer catalog reference: MTENNS205.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before mounting or adjusting the toolholder. Secure the shank fully in the tool post or turret to the depth recommended by the machine manufacturer to prevent overhang-related chatter. Verify insert seating and clamp torque before initiating a cut. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when changing inserts or repositioning the holder.
