The HERTEL 1000154 is a right-hand MTAN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative rake cutting applications. It accepts TN..33. series inserts secured by a clamp and screw holding method, providing rigid, repeatable insert positioning during turning operations. The toolholder features a -5 degree negative rake angle and a 3-degree lead angle, making it well suited for general-purpose OD turning on lathes and turning centers. With a steel construction and a 3/4 inch square shank, it delivers the rigidity required for moderate to heavy interrupted and continuous cuts. Installation and setup are straightforward for machinists and tool-room technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This toolholder is intended for use in CNC and manual lathe turning applications where negative rake inserts are preferred for their edge strength and longer tool life on harder workpiece materials. The MTAN style is commonly deployed in production turning cells handling steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. The 4.5 inch overall length and 3/4 inch shank fit standard tool blocks and turret positions sized for that shank dimension. Compatible inserts are identified by the TN..33. and TN.. 332 series designations.
Accepts TN..33. series inserts; complete insert compatibility designation is TN.. 332. Designed for use in tool blocks and turrets accommodating a 3/4 inch square shank. Catalog reference numbers MTANR and L123B are associated with this toolholder family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing inserts and before mounting the toolholder in the turret. Confirm shank fit and tool block clamping torque per machine tool builder specifications before initiating a cut. Inspect insert seating and clamp screw engagement before each setup to ensure proper holding force.
