The HERTEL 1000153 is a right-hand MTAN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative rake turning operations. Built for use on CNC lathes and manual turning centers, this toolholder accepts TN..33. series inserts and delivers a -5 degree rake angle for consistent, stable chip control on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 0.625 inch square shank provides rigid setup in standard square-shank tool posts and turrets. At 4.5 inches in overall length, this holder fits a wide range of tooling setups without excessive overhang. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning applications will find this holder a direct fit for standard insert-change workflows.
This toolholder is suited for general-purpose external turning in production and job-shop environments. The 3-degree lead angle promotes smooth entry and reduces cutting forces on straight turning passes. The clamp-and-screw insert retention method keeps the TN..33. insert indexed firmly under interrupted cuts and continuous turning loads. The back-of-bar to cutting edge dimension is 0.625 inches, allowing accurate center-height setup on most turret and gang-tool configurations. No coolant-through capability is present, so this holder is intended for flood or dry cutting applications.
Designed for use with TN..33. series indexable turning inserts, specifically compatible with TN.. 332 insert geometry. This holder is part of the HERTEL Multi-Option series and corresponds to catalog reference MTANR L103B.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the toolholder from the turret or tool post. Verify center height alignment before taking a test cut, as incorrect center height with a negative-rake holder increases cutting forces and accelerates insert wear. Torque the clamp screw to the insert manufacturer's recommended value using the appropriate Torx or hex key.
