The HERTEL 1000140 is a right-hand MSKN-style negative rake indexable turning toolholder designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. The toolholder accepts SN..43. series inserts secured by a clamp-and-screw holding method, delivering rigid insert support for consistent cutting performance. The shank measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall with an overall length of 6 inches, making it a standard-profile holder suited to a wide range of lathe turret configurations. Constructed from steel, this holder is built for repeated use in production turning environments. It is installed and used by machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators.
This toolholder is intended for external turning applications where a negative rake insert geometry is preferred for interrupted cuts, hard materials, or high-feed roughing passes. The 15-degree lead angle and 1.25-inch head length position the insert for effective chip flow and surface finish control. With a right-hand cutting orientation, it is suited for standard left-to-right turning on conventional lathe setups. The MSKN style is commonly found in production shops, job shops, and maintenance machining environments handling steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. Coolant-through capability is not included in this configuration.
Designed to accept SN..43. series indexable inserts with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle. Complete insert compatibility is listed as SN.. 432. This holder is an OEM-style fit for standard MSKN-configuration lathe tooling setups and is referenced under manufacturers catalog number MSKNR L164D.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Secure the shank fully in the lathe tool post or turret pocket before operation, ensuring the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing inserts or adjusting the toolholder. Follow the machine manufacturer guidelines for tool overhang and clamping torque to maintain rigidity and safe cutting conditions.
