The HERTEL 1000121 is a right-hand MDQN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative-rake external turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built from steel with a 1 inch by 1 inch square shank and an overall length of 6 inches, this toolholder is engineered for rigidity and repeatable insert seating. It accepts DN..43. series inserts secured by a clamp and screw holding method, providing stable clamping force during interrupted and continuous cuts. The negative 7-degree rake angle makes it well-suited for harder workpiece materials and applications that benefit from a stronger cutting edge geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers specify this holder for general-purpose turning and profiling work.
This toolholder is intended for use in turning applications where a right-hand cutting direction is required. The 17.5-degree lead angle and 1.25-inch back-of-bar to cutting edge dimension position the insert for effective chip flow and clearance on standard turning setups. It is a common choice in production shops and job shops running steel, cast iron, and similar materials on engine lathes and CNC turning centers. The MDQN style is part of the Multi-Option series, allowing compatibility across a range of negative-rake insert geometries in the DN..43. family.
Designed to accept DN..43. series indexable inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, compatible with DN.. 432 insert geometry. Refer to the HERTEL Multi-Option series (catalog reference MDQNR L164D) for confirmed insert pairings.
Installation is performed by machinist or CNC setup personnel. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before mounting or changing inserts. Seat the shank fully and squarely in the toolpost or turret before tightening, and verify cutting edge height relative to spindle centerline before running. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's torque guidelines for toolpost fasteners and insert clamping screws.
