The HERTEL 1000106 is a left-hand MCLN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative rake metal cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It accepts CN..32. series inserts held in place by a combination clamp and screw system, providing rigid insert seating under interrupted and continuous cut conditions. The shank measures 0.75 inches wide by 0.75 inches tall with an overall length of 4.5 inches, making it a compact, direct-mount holder suited to standard square-shank tool blocks. Steel construction gives it the rigidity and wear resistance expected in production turning environments. Licensed machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers.
This toolholder is intended for external turning applications where a left-hand cutting direction is required, such as turning toward a shoulder or working a part chucked in a configuration that favors left-hand tool entry. The 5-degree lead angle influences chip flow and helps reduce radial cutting forces. With a head length of 1.0 inch and a back-of-bar to cutting edge distance of 1.0 inch, it positions the insert predictably within standard MCLN geometric tolerances. It is a single-use toolholder, not configured for multi-use setups.
Compatible with CN..32. series indexable inserts, specifically CN.. 322 geometry. Designed for use in standard square-shank external turning tool blocks accepting a 3/4-inch by 3/4-inch holder.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before mounting or changing inserts, power down the machine and confirm the spindle is fully stopped. Secure the toolholder in a clean, properly sized tool block pocket and torque the clamping hardware according to the machine tool manufacturer and insert supplier specifications. Handle indexable inserts with care — use an insert seating tool rather than bare fingers to avoid edge chipping and personal injury.
