The HERTEL 1000098 is a left-hand MCLN-style negative rake indexable turning toolholder designed for external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Built on a 1 inch by 1 inch steel shank with a 6 inch overall length, this toolholder features a 5-degree lead angle and accepts CN..43. series inserts secured by a clamp and screw holding method. It is intended for production turning environments where consistent insert indexing and rigid tool holding are required. The Series Multi-Option designation indicates broad insert interchangeability within the CN format family. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shop or production settings are the primary users.
This toolholder is suited for external turning applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces where a negative rake cutting geometry is appropriate. The left-hand orientation positions it for specific spindle direction and approach configurations. The 1.2 inch head length and 1.25 inch back-of-bar to cutting edge dimension make it compatible with standard square-shank tool posts and quick-change tool blocks used in most engine lathe and turning center setups. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant delivery should be used when cutting conditions require it.
Designed to accept CN..43. series indexable inserts, specifically compatible with CN.. 432 inserts as noted by the manufacturer. Verify insert inscribed circle of 0.5 inch when selecting compatible CN-geometry inserts.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be stopped and the tool post or turret locked before mounting or indexing inserts. Clamp and screw insert retention components should be inspected for wear at each insert change. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's torque and clamping guidelines for the specific tool post or quick-change system in use.
