The HERTEL 1000073 is a left-hand CTAP-style indexable turning toolholder designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built with a 0-degree positive rake angle and a 0.5 inch by 0.5 inch square shank, it accepts TP..22 series inserts held in place by a clamp-type insert holding method. The toolholder measures 4.5 inches in overall length with a head length of 0.75 inches and a back-of-bar to cutting edge distance of 0.5 inches. Constructed from steel, it is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop turning environments.
This toolholder suits applications requiring left-hand turning geometry, such as facing toward a tailstock or turning toward a shoulder on the right side of the workpiece. The CTAP style is a standard clamp-type holder configuration common in general-purpose turning setups. It is suited for both roughing and finishing passes when paired with the appropriate TP..22 insert grade. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant delivery should be used when chip control or heat management is required.
Compatible with TP..22 series indexable turning inserts, specifically TP.. 221 as noted in the specification data. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit toolholder for applications requiring CTAP-style left-hand external turning with a 0.5 inch square shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and the spindle locked. Secure the shank firmly in the tool post or turret pocket to the depth recommended by the machine manufacturer, ensuring the cutting edge height is on center with the workpiece axis. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp components for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when changing inserts under production conditions.
