The HERTEL 08512147 is a threaded shank drill bit designed for precision drilling in low-tensile-strength materials. It features a No. 30 wire gauge size, equivalent to 0.1285 inches in decimal diameter, and a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on entry. The high-speed steel construction with an oxide coating provides corrosion resistance and moderate lubricity. A web-thinned, tapered-web geometry reduces thrust force at the cutting edge. The 1/4-28 threaded hex shank is compatible with quick-change chuck systems common in production drilling setups.
This bit is suited for use in light-duty production drilling, maintenance, and repair applications involving metals, plastics, and other low-tensile-strength materials. The long-style classification, with an overall length of 2.125 inches and a flute length of 1.125 inches, gives added reach compared to jobber-length bits of the same diameter. It is commonly used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals working with sheet metal, aluminum, and similar substrates where hole accuracy and minimal breakout matter. The right-hand cutting direction and regular spiral flute promote consistent chip evacuation.
Designed for use with quick-change chuck systems accepting a 1/4-28 threaded hex shank. Suitable for drilling low-tensile-strength materials including aluminum, soft steel, and plastics. Conforms to NAS 965 specification.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with drilling equipment and tooling. Ensure the chuck and shank thread engagement are fully seated and snug before beginning any drilling operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling metals to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Wear eye protection and secure workpieces properly before operating.
