The HERTEL 04618906 is a cobalt threaded shank drill bit designed for drilling into high-tensile strength materials where standard HSS bits fail or wear prematurely. Built to NAS 965 specification, this No. 12 wire gauge bit measures 0.1890 inches in diameter with a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch. The oxide finish provides added surface hardness and corrosion resistance. The 1/4-28 threaded shank is sized for quick-change drill adapters commonly used in aerospace and precision metalworking applications. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical contractors reach for cobalt bits when drilling stainless steel flanges, hardened brackets, or structural steel.
This bit is suited for production drilling in ferrous metals, stainless steel, titanium alloys, and other high-tensile strength materials. The long-series geometry with a 1-1/8 inch flute length and 2-1/8 inch overall length gives additional reach for deeper hole applications. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix promotes chip evacuation in interrupted cuts and through-hole drilling. Trade professionals using quick-change threaded shank systems will find this bit a direct fit for standard 1/4-28 threaded adapters used in handheld and drill-press setups.
Designed for use with quick-change drill systems and adapters accepting a 1/4-28 threaded shank. Suitable for general-purpose drilling in high-tensile strength ferrous and non-ferrous metals per NAS 965 specification.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified tradespeople or machinists familiar with rotating cutting tools and proper drill press or handheld drill operation. Always power down the drill and confirm the bit is fully seated and locked in the threaded adapter before beginning a cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to extend bit life and manage heat. Wear appropriate PPE including safety glasses and gloves when handling and operating drill bits.
