The HERTEL 02499192 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for high-speed material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers durability and heat resistance when cutting ferrous and tough alloy materials. The 1/2 inch diameter, 4-flute configuration with a coarse pitch geometry breaks chips aggressively and reduces cutting forces, making it well-suited for roughing passes on vertical mills and CNC machining centers. The center-cutting design allows for plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. With a 1/2 inch length of cut and 2.5 inch overall length, this is a compact, dependable tool for shop floor and production use.
This end mill fits standard roughing operations in job shops, tool rooms, and production machining environments. Its right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with conventional vertical milling machine spindles and standard CNC mill setups. The 1/2 inch shank diameter seats directly into common collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style tool holders. It is appropriate for roughing cuts in steel, stainless steel, and other difficult-to-machine alloys where cobalt tooling is specified over standard high-speed steel. Machinists and CNC operators running finishing or semi-finish passes should follow this tool with an appropriate finishing end mill.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in 1/2 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, or Weldon-style holders on standard vertical mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator familiar with cutting tool setup. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before inserting or removing the tool from its holder. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating the tool to confirm concentricity. Always confirm feed rates and spindle speeds against published cutting data for the specific work material and machine before engaging the cut.
