The HERTEL 02462455 is a stub-length threaded shank drill bit designed for precision drilling in low-tensile strength materials. It carries a No. 40 wire gauge size, which equals 0.0980 inches in decimal, and features a 135-degree split point with web thinning for self-centering entry and reduced walking on the workpiece. The shank is threaded to a 1/4-28 specification, making it compatible with dedicated threaded-shank drill holders. Overall length is 0.5 inches with a flute length of 0.3125 inches (5/16 inch). The bit is manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating to reduce friction and extend service life in general-purpose drilling applications.
This bit is intended for use in applications requiring a compact, stub-length drill in tight or shallow-clearance conditions. The right-hand, spiral-flute geometry with a regular spiral and tapered web configuration is suited to hand-held or machine drilling in low-tensile strength metals and similar materials. The 1/4-28 threaded shank locks securely into compatible drill holders, reducing runout and improving hole accuracy compared to a standard smooth shank. It conforms to NAS 965 Type B specification, making it appropriate for aerospace-adjacent and precision manufacturing environments where controlled tolerances matter.
Designed for use with drill holders and power tools equipped with a 1/4-28 threaded shank receptacle. Intended for drilling low-tensile strength materials in general-purpose and precision manufacturing applications.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or trade professionals familiar with threaded-shank tooling systems. Ensure the drill holder threads and the bit shank are clean and free of chips before seating the bit. Secure the bit fully into the holder before applying power, and verify spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter. Do not use in holders designed for smooth-shank bits, as the threaded interface requires a matching threaded receiver.
