The HERTEL 02387074 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and maintenance applications. Built from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit offers extended wear resistance and reduced friction across repeated use. It carries a wire gauge size of 14, equivalent to 0.182 inches in decimal, and features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and requires no center punch on most metal surfaces. Overall length is 2.1875 inches with a flute length of 1.125 inches. A licensed machinist or tool-and-die technician is the typical installer.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling in light-to-medium gauge steel, aluminum, copper, and similar materials where a stub-length tool reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy. The shorter overall length relative to jobber bits provides added rigidity in drill press, CNC, and hand-held power tool setups. The right-hand spiral flute geometry evacuates chips efficiently, keeping the cut clear during through-hole operations. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit suitable for use in drill presses, CNC drilling centers, and hand-held power tools equipped with a standard chuck accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.150 to 0.200 inch decimal size range.
Installation is performed by machinists, toolroom technicians, or maintenance professionals. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped or fixtured before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling harder alloys to extend tool life, as this bit does not support through-the-tool coolant delivery. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating condition before each use and replace the bit if chipping or coating wear is visible.
