The GWS 314624 is a single-end square end mill designed for precision milling in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide, it offers rigidity and wear resistance needed for production and maintenance machining environments. The tool features a ZrN (zirconium nitride) coating, a 37-degree helix angle, and three right-hand spiral flutes. These characteristics combine to promote efficient chip evacuation and reduce built-up edge when cutting aluminum alloys and similar soft metals. With a 0.25 inch cutting diameter and 2 inch length of cut, the 314624 suits deep-pocket milling, slotting, and profiling operations on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers of this consumable tooling.
This end mill is sized for light- to medium-duty cutting applications in aluminum, brass, copper, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. Its 4 inch overall length and 0.25 inch shank diameter make it compatible with standard ER or straight-bore collet systems commonly found on vertical machining centers, CNC routers, and knee mills. The Series 2030 designation places it within GWS tooling lines aimed at non-ferrous and general-purpose applications. It is center-cutting, allowing direct plunge entry into the workpiece without a pilot hole. Coolant-through capability is not included on this tool.
Designed for use in aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece materials (Material Code N). Fits standard 1/4 inch collets and straight-bore tool holders on CNC machining centers, CNC routers, and manual knee mills. Part of the GWS Series 2030 tooling line.
Install and torque the collet nut according to the tool holder manufacturer specifications before machining. Verify spindle runout does not exceed the tolerance required for the intended operation, as excessive runout accelerates carbide tool wear. Always confirm the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing or inspecting tooling. Cutting parameters including feed rate and depth of cut should be set according to GWS published speeds and feeds for the 314624 in the target workpiece material.
