The GENERAC 7282 is an air-cooled standby generator rated at 28 KW and 120/240 volts AC, designed for automatic backup power in residential and light commercial applications. When utility power fails, this unit starts and transfers load automatically, supplying whole-home or small-commercial power without manual intervention. Integrated WiFi connectivity allows remote monitoring and diagnostics through a compatible mobile application. Licensed electricians and generator installation contractors are the primary installers for this class of equipment. The air-cooled engine design keeps the footprint compact relative to liquid-cooled alternatives at similar output levels.
The 7282 is suited for residential properties with higher power demands and light commercial facilities that require reliable standby power. Typical installations pair this generator with an automatic transfer switch sized to the service entrance. Applications include whole-house backup for larger homes, small office buildings, retail spaces, and other facilities where a 28 KW output covers essential and non-essential circuits simultaneously. WiFi monitoring makes it practical for property managers and service contractors who need remote visibility into generator status and run-time data.
Designed as an OEM standby generator unit intended for use with a compatible automatic transfer switch sized to the installation service entrance. Consult the installation manual for approved transfer switch pairings and service entrance requirements.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician and, where applicable, a certified generator installation contractor in accordance with NEC Article 702 and applicable local codes. Disconnect and lock out utility power before any wiring work, and ensure the automatic transfer switch is properly rated for the connected load. The unit requires a dedicated fuel supply line sized to engine demand, installed per IFGC requirements by a licensed gas contractor. Do not operate indoors or in enclosed spaces without approved ventilation.
