The GEARWRENCH 3151 is a convertible retaining ring pliers designed for installing and removing both internal and external retaining rings in a single tool. Built to ASME B107.500 standards, it handles internal rings from 3/8 to 2 inches and external rings from 1/4 to 2 inches. The steel body provides durability under repeated shop use, while the double-dip orange handles and spring-loaded design reduce hand fatigue during extended work. Tip diameter options of 0.038, 0.047, and 0.070 inches allow the technician to match the tip to the ring application without switching tools.
The 3151 is suited for automotive, HVAC, pump, and general mechanical assembly work where snap rings and retaining rings are common fasteners. At 8 inches overall length, it provides enough leverage for rings in confined spaces and on rotating shafts. Technicians working on motor shafts, bearing bores, hydraulic cylinders, and transmission components will find the convertible design useful for switching between internal and external ring work on the same job.
Designed for use with standard internal retaining rings from 3/8 to 2 inches and external retaining rings from 1/4 to 2 inches, as specified by the manufacturer.
Always relieve spring tension or disconnect power before servicing any assembly requiring retaining ring removal. Select the correct tip diameter for the ring groove to avoid tip slippage under load. Eye protection is recommended when compressing or expanding retaining rings, as rings can release unexpectedly. This tool is not insulated and should not be used near energized electrical components.
