The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL 1080-049-D is a 49/64-inch high-speed steel (HSS) screw machine (stub length) drill bit with a 1/2-inch reduced shank. Screw machine drills are shorter than jobber-length bits, which increases rigidity and reduces deflection during drilling operations. The 1/2-inch shank allows this bit to seat in standard 1/2-inch drill chucks and drill presses without an adapter. Manufactured in the USA, this bit is suited for metalworking, mechanical, and industrial trade applications where hole accuracy and tool life under repeated use matter.
This drill bit is appropriate for use in machine shop environments, production drilling, and maintenance and repair operations. It is well suited for drilling ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar materials where a stub-length geometry is preferred for better control and reduced chatter. Tradespeople working on mechanical assemblies, HVAC equipment fabrication, plumbing rough-in, and electrical panel work will find the stub-length format practical in tight or constrained setups.
Designed as a standard screw machine stub-length drill bit compatible with any drill press, mill, or handheld drill equipped with a 1/2-inch or larger chuck capacity.
Install in a 1/2-inch or larger keyed or keyless drill chuck, ensuring the shank is fully seated and the chuck is tightened before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling hardened or ferrous metals to extend tool life. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure workpieces firmly before drilling. Follow applicable shop safety standards for rotating cutting tools.
