The E638 15390 DNA Polymerase α-Primase includes both RNA primase and DNA polymerase subunits. This enzyme is essential for synthesizing a longer than twenty base hybrid RNA-DNA primer. The DNA Pol1 subunit does not feature a 3-prime to 5-prime proofreading exonuclease, which allows it to efficiently traverse common oxidized or hydrolyzed template nucleotides often found during chromosome replication.
The DNA Polymerase α-Primase synthesizes RNA-DNA primers and efficiently traverses template lesions, with support from replication factor C (RFC) to stimulate Polα lesion bypass.
