The CLE-LINE C74048 is a high-speed steel (HSS) jobber-length drill bit ground to a 135-degree split point for fast, self-centering entry without a center punch. The bit measures 6.70 mm (0.2600 inches) in diameter with a 3.98-inch overall length and a 2.48-inch flute length. A black oxide and gold coating provides surface hardness and lubricity to reduce heat buildup during drilling. The right-hand spiral flute geometry follows a regular spiral pattern and is rated for heavy-duty service. This is a standard two-flute straight-shank drill intended for use by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and general maintenance trades working with ferrous materials.
The C74048 is designed for drilling steel and cast iron in production and maintenance applications. Its 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it well suited for through-holes and blind holes within its rated maximum drilling depth of 0.66 inches. The straight cylindrical shank diameter of 0.2600 inches fits standard three-jaw drill chucks on bench drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drill machines. The tapered web configuration adds rigidity at the cutting tip and reduces walking on hard surfaces. This bit falls within the 6.00 mm to 7.00 mm drill size range and conforms to DIN specification standards.
Designed as a standard jobber-length replacement drill bit for use in any three-jaw drill chuck accepting a 0.2600-inch straight shank, including bench drill presses, portable hand drills, and compatible CNC drilling equipment used on steel and cast iron workpieces.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance trades using standard drill chuck tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Apply cutting fluid or cutting oil when drilling steel to control heat and extend bit life. Inspect the split point for chipping or wear before each use, as a damaged tip will reduce accuracy and increase the risk of bit breakage under load.
