The CLE-LINE C74005 is a 3.00 mm high-speed steel jobber drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous materials. It features a 135-degree split point that starts on contact without walking, reducing the need for a center punch. The black oxide and gold coating adds lubricity and surface hardness to extend tool life under repeated use. With an overall length of 2.4 inches and a flute length of 1.3 inches, this bit fits standard drill chucks with a straight cylindrical shank of 0.1200 inches in diameter. It cuts in a right-hand direction with a regular spiral flute and tapered web construction. Machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians reach for jobber-length bits like this for general-purpose metal drilling on the bench or in the field.
This bit is rated for drilling steel and cast iron in both production and maintenance applications. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and heavy-duty grade designation make it suitable for repetitive drilling cycles in shop environments as well as one-off field work. The maximum drilling depth is 0.3 inches per pass, keeping deflection low in thin-stock and sheet-metal applications. It conforms to DIN specification standards, which govern geometry and tolerance for interchangeability across tooling systems common in commercial and industrial trades.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1200-inch straight shank, suitable for drilling steel and cast iron workpieces in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general metalworking applications.
Install and remove drill bits only with the drill or press powered off and the chuck fully secured. Always use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling steel or cast iron to extend bit life and maintain hole quality. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent walking, even with a split-point tip. Machinists and trade technicians should follow applicable shop safety codes and wear eye protection during all drilling operations.
