The CD VALVE cd5518/2 is a braze-on, self-piercing copper saddle valve designed for refrigeration and HVAC line sets. The valve allows technicians to access a charged line without recovering refrigerant first. To install, the saddle portion is brazed directly onto the existing line. Once the braze joint cools, tightening the cap drives a steel pin with an integrated valve core through the line wall, creating a secure, repeatable access point. The copper body resists corrosion and holds up in typical mechanical room and rooftop environments. The 1-1/8 inch nominal size suits larger suction or liquid line diameters common in commercial and light commercial equipment.
This saddle valve is suited for HVAC and refrigeration applications where a permanent line tap is needed on copper tubing. It is particularly useful when adding a service port, installing a refrigerant monitoring point, or tapping into an existing charged line during service or retrofit work. The self-piercing design eliminates the need to cut the line or recover the refrigerant charge before establishing access, reducing service time on operating systems.
Designed as an OEM-style braze-on saddle valve for 1-1/8 inch nominal copper tubing used in refrigeration and HVAC systems.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC or refrigeration technicians. The saddle must be brazed onto the copper line using appropriate flux and filler alloy before the pin is actuated — do not tighten the cap prior to completing the braze joint and allowing it to cool fully. Follow local mechanical codes and EPA Section 608 requirements regarding refrigerant handling when working on charged systems. Wear appropriate PPE when brazing in confined spaces.
