The CARRHILL SR2114 is a socket fusion reducer coupling designed for gas distribution piping systems using medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) pipe. This fitting transitions from a 2-inch pipe to a 1.25-inch pipe using a heat-fusion joining method, creating a leak-resistant, monolithic connection suited for underground and above-grade natural gas and LP gas service lines. The yellow color coding follows standard industry convention for gas-service polyethylene fittings, making identification straightforward during installation and inspection. Licensed plumbers and gas fitters working on residential or light commercial gas distribution systems are the primary installers of this component.
This reducer coupling is used in socket fusion piping assemblies where a reduction in pipe diameter is required along a gas distribution run. Typical applications include service line transitions, meter set assemblies, and lateral branch reductions in MDPE gas piping systems. The socket fusion end configuration accepts standard MDPE pipe in the specified sizes, allowing integration into new construction and repair or extension of existing gas polyethylene piping networks.
Designed as an OEM-style socket fusion fitting for use with 2-inch and 1.25-inch MDPE gas pipe in residential and light commercial gas distribution systems.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC requirements governing polyethylene gas piping. The gas supply must be fully shut off and the line depressurized before cutting into any existing piping. Socket fusion joining requires a properly sized fusion tool, including a heating iron and socket face inserts, brought to the manufacturer-specified fusion temperature before making the joint. Fused connections must be allowed to cool fully before the system is repressurized or tested.
