The CARRHILL SR2112 is a socket fusion reducer coupling designed for gas distribution piping systems using medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) pipe. This fitting connects a 2-inch pipe to a 1-1/2-inch pipe in a straight-run reduction, using the socket fusion joining method for a leak-resistant, permanent bond. The yellow color identifies it as a gas-service fitting per standard industry practice. Licensed plumbers and gas pipe installers use this fitting when transitioning between two MDPE pipe sizes in underground or direct-burial natural gas or propane distribution lines.
This coupling is intended for use in residential and light commercial gas piping applications where MDPE pipe is the specified material. It is suited for underground gas service lines, meter sets, and distribution mains that require a reduction from 2-inch to 1-1/2-inch pipe. The socket fusion joining method makes it compatible with standard socket fusion tooling available to gas pipe contractors.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for socket fusion MDPE gas piping systems requiring a 2-inch by 1-1/2-inch reduction.
Socket fusion fittings must be installed by a qualified plumber or gas piping contractor familiar with MDPE fusion procedures and local gas code requirements. Always purge and verify the line is depressurized before cutting into any existing gas piping. Proper socket fusion tooling, including the correct-size facing tool and heating iron, is required to achieve a code-compliant joint. Follow all applicable local codes and ASTM fusion standards for joint preparation, heating times, and cooling hold times.
