The CARRHILL S91 is a 1-inch socket fusion elbow designed for medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) gas distribution piping. This 90-degree fitting connects MDPE pipe runs at a right angle and is manufactured in yellow to meet standard color-coding requirements for underground gas service lines. Socket fusion fittings are joined to pipe by heating both mating surfaces to a specified temperature and pressing them together, creating a continuous, leak-resistant thermoplastic bond. This fitting is appropriate for natural gas and propane distribution systems and is typically installed by licensed gas plumbers or utility contractors working on service laterals and yard gas lines.
The S91 is suited for residential and light commercial underground gas distribution applications where MDPE pipe is the specified material. Yellow MDPE fittings are a recognized industry standard for gas service, making this elbow appropriate for new construction, service replacement, or repair work on buried gas lines. Socket fusion joints in MDPE gas systems require proper fusion tooling including a socket fusion tool kit with correctly sized face and depth gauges for 1-inch IPS or CTS pipe, depending on the pipe dimension system in use.
Designed as an OEM-style socket fusion fitting for use with 1-inch MDPE yellow gas distribution pipe in direct-bury natural gas and propane service line applications.
Installation must be performed by a licensed gas plumber or qualified utility contractor in accordance with applicable codes including IFGC and local gas utility requirements. The gas service must be shut off and pressure verified at zero before any fitting is removed or installed. Socket fusion requires a calibrated fusion tool set to the correct temperature for MDPE material, and pipe ends must be clean, dry, and cut square before fusion. Do not disturb the joint until the full cooling time specified by the fusion tool manufacturer has elapsed.
