The CARMEX 16ER16ABUTP25C is a laydown threading insert designed for external American Buttress thread forms on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiN coating, the insert runs at 16 threads per inch (TPI) and carries a P25C manufacturer grade with a C5 material grade. The 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 0.146 inch thickness match standard ER-style toolholders. The 45-degree included angle and zero-degree relief angle are specific to the American Buttress thread profile. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with precision threaded components.
This insert is suited for right-hand external threading operations across a broad range of workpiece materials. The P25C grade and universal primary workpiece material classification make it applicable to steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temp alloys, and other general-purpose turning materials as defined by ISO material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is a strong candidate for production threading of buttress-profile fasteners, hydraulic cylinders, jacks, and other components where the asymmetric load-bearing buttress form is required.
Designed for use in 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.146 inch thickness. Compatible with workpiece materials corresponding to ISO codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or indexing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer specification when tightening the clamping screw. Verify insert seating and thread profile with a gauge or test pass before committing to a production run.
