The BOSTON GEAR 08090 is a flexible 3-jaw coupling insert designed to transmit torque between two shaft hubs while absorbing shock and vibration in power transmission applications. Molded from rubber, this insert seats between two mating jaw hubs to form a complete flexible coupling assembly. It has an outside diameter of 4.5 inches and accommodates a minimum bore diameter of 1-3/4 inches. Rated at 2800 inch-pounds of torque, the 08090 is suited for moderate-duty drive systems where misalignment dampening and vibration isolation are priorities. One insert and two separately ordered hubs are required to complete the coupling assembly.
This coupling insert is used in industrial and commercial mechanical drive systems, including pump drives, conveyor systems, compressor drives, and general power transmission equipment. The jaw-style flexible coupling design is common in applications where easy spider replacement is needed without disturbing the connected shafts. Installation typically takes place on motor-to-load shaft connections in manufacturing facilities, mechanical rooms, and process equipment setups. Technicians working on HVAC mechanical systems, pumping stations, and light industrial machinery will encounter this coupling type regularly.
The 08090 insert is designed for use with BOSTON GEAR FC45 series 3-jaw coupling hubs. A complete coupling assembly requires two hubs and one insert ordered separately. Consult the FC45 hub specifications to confirm bore size and keyway requirements before ordering.
Installation of jaw coupling inserts should be performed by a qualified mechanical technician. Disconnect and lock out all power to the drive system before disassembling the coupling. Inspect hub jaw faces for wear or damage before seating the new insert. Ensure shaft alignment is within the coupling manufacturer's specified tolerance to maximize insert service life and prevent premature wear.
