The BOSTON GEAR 08080 is a rubber flexible 3-jaw coupling insert designed to transmit torque between two shaft hubs while absorbing vibration and compensating for minor misalignment. Part of the FC series, this spider-style insert fits between two mating jaw hubs to complete a flexible coupling assembly. It handles up to 125 inch-pounds of torque and has an outside diameter of 1.5 inches with a minimum bore diameter of 0.5 inches. The rubber construction provides damping characteristics suited to light-duty power transmission applications in industrial and commercial mechanical systems. This insert is sold individually and requires two separate FC-series hubs to form a complete coupling.
This coupling insert is used in light industrial drive systems where flexible shaft connections are needed between motors, pumps, compressors, and similar rotating equipment. The 3-jaw design allows for quick assembly and replacement of the elastomeric element without disturbing the hubs or shafting. It is sized under the FC15 series code and is appropriate for shafts starting at 0.5 inches bore. Mechanical technicians and millwrights commonly install this type of insert during equipment setup or scheduled maintenance on conveyor drives, pump skids, and similar power transmission assemblies.
Designed for use with Boston Gear FC series 3-jaw coupling hubs. Two hubs and one insert are required to form a complete coupling. Consult the FC series hub selection guide to match hub bore size and keyway requirements to the target shaft dimensions.
Installation is typically performed by a mechanical technician or millwright. De-energize and lock out all power to the connected equipment before servicing any coupling. Ensure both hubs are securely mounted and properly aligned on their respective shafts before seating the insert. Do not exceed the rated torque capacity of the insert, as overloading will accelerate elastomer wear.
