The BONEHAM PT286HW is a press fit headless drill bushing designed to guide drill bits and cutting tools with precision in jig and fixture applications. This bushing carries industry code P and features an inside diameter of 0.281 inches (letter size K) with an inside diameter tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0005 inches, ensuring consistent, accurate hole placement. The outside diameter is 7/16 inches and the overall length is 3/8 inches. Constructed from steel and hardened to 60 to 65 HRC, the PT286HW provides the wear resistance needed for repeated drilling operations in production environments. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and fixture builders install this type of bushing.
This bushing is suited for use in drill jigs and fixtures across manufacturing and metalworking applications. The headless design allows the bushing to sit flush within the jig body without a protruding flange, which is the correct configuration when clearance above the jig plate is limited or when multiple bushings must be closely spaced. It is a permanent, non-renewable installation — once pressed in, it is not designed for field replacement. Typical applications include production drilling, reaming guidance, and precision hole location in both prototype and repeat-run machining environments.
Designed as an ANSI-standard press fit headless drill bushing for use in machinist jigs and drill fixtures requiring a 7/16 inch outside diameter bore and 0.281 inch inside diameter tool guidance.
Installation is performed by machinists or tool-and-die specialists using an arbor press or hydraulic press to seat the bushing flush into the prepared jig plate bore. The receiving bore must be machined to the appropriate interference fit tolerance to ensure proper retention — do not hammer install without a press and appropriate driver to avoid distorting the bushing bore. Verify bore depth and alignment before pressing to full depth, as the non-renewable design does not allow for adjustment after installation.
