The BONEHAM P648MX is a press fit headless drill bushing designed to guide drill bits and reamers with precision in jig and fixture applications. Manufactured from steel and hardened to 60 to 65 HRC, it provides the wear resistance needed for repeated drilling cycles in production and toolroom environments. The P648MX features a 23/32 inch inside diameter, a 1 inch outside diameter, and an overall length of 1/2 inch. Its headless design allows flush seating in jig plates where a protruding flange would interfere with workpiece clearance or clamping. This bushing is installed by machinists and toolmakers and is a non-renewable type, meaning it is pressed permanently into the jig plate bore.
The P648MX is suited for use in drill jigs and production fixtures in metalworking, machining, and fabrication settings. It is appropriate for both job shop and high-volume production environments where consistent hole location and drill guidance are required. The bushing conforms to ANSI standards for press fit headless bushings, making it a recognized replacement or addition in existing jig assemblies built to those standards. Industry code P identifies the bushing geometry class and simplifies cross-referencing with tooling catalogs and jig design references.
Designed as an ANSI-standard press fit headless drill bushing with industry code P, suitable for use in drill jigs and fixtures requiring a 23/32 inch bore guide and a 1 inch OD press fit seat.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolmakers using an arbor press or hydraulic press to seat the bushing flush into the jig plate bore. The mating bore in the jig plate should be machined to the correct interference fit tolerance per ANSI standards before pressing. Never hammer the bushing directly without a proper driver to avoid damaging the ID or distorting the bushing body. Verify concentricity and seating depth after pressing before returning the fixture to service.
