The BONEHAM P408KE is a press fit headless drill bushing designed to guide drill bits and other cutting tools with precision in jig and fixture applications. Manufactured from steel with a hardness rating of 60 to 65 HRC, this bushing delivers the wear resistance required for high-cycle production drilling. It features a 0.404-inch inside diameter with a tight tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0005 inches, ensuring consistent hole location and drill guidance. The 5/8-inch outside diameter body presses securely into the jig plate without a head flange, keeping the surface profile low and unobstructed. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and production fixture technicians are the primary installers.
This bushing is suited for use in drill jigs and machining fixtures found in metal fabrication shops, production manufacturing environments, and maintenance repair operations. The headless design is preferred when clearance above the work surface is limited or when the bushing must sit flush with the jig plate. With an overall length of 1/2 inch, this part fits into standard-depth jig plate bores designed for P-series headless bushings per ANSI standards. It is not a renewable bushing and is intended for permanent press-in installation.
Designed as a P-series press fit headless drill bushing per ANSI standards, compatible with jig plates and fixtures bored to accept a 5/8-inch outside diameter press fit bushing.
Press fit bushings are installed by machinists or fixture technicians using an arbor press or hydraulic press — never drive with a hammer, as uneven force can distort the bore or crack the jig plate. Verify the receiving bore diameter and finish meet ANSI press fit tolerance requirements before installation. Once pressed in, this bushing is a permanent installation and is not designed for removal or replacement. Ensure the jig plate is fully supported during pressing to prevent deflection or damage.
