The BONEHAM P408KA is a press fit headless drill bushing used to guide drill bits and other cutting tools with precision in jig and fixture applications. Manufactured from steel, this bushing installs without a head, sitting flush or below the surface of the jig plate for clearance-sensitive setups. It carries an inside diameter of 0.397 inches with a tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0005 inches, a body outside diameter of 5/8 inches, and an overall length of 1/2 inch. The headless design and press fit installation method make this bushing well suited for production environments where repeatable hole location accuracy is required. Machinists, tool and die makers, and fixture builders are the primary installers.
This bushing fits jig and fixture plates in metalworking and manufacturing applications where a permanent, non-renewable drill guide is needed. The industry code P classification indicates a standardized inside diameter series, making it straightforward to match with tooling by wire gauge or decimal inch specification. It is appropriate for both light and moderate production drilling operations where the bushing does not require field replacement between runs.
Designed as an OEM-style permanent press fit drill bushing for use in standard jig and fixture plates requiring a headless, non-renewable bushing with a P-series inside diameter classification.
Installation is performed by machinists or tool and die makers using an arbor press or hydraulic press to seat the bushing into a properly reamed hole in the jig plate. The mating bore in the jig plate should be machined to the appropriate interference fit tolerance for the 5/8-inch outside diameter before pressing. Power down all associated machine tools before installing or inspecting bushings in a fixture. Do not drive the bushing in with impact tools, as this can distort the inside diameter and compromise hole location accuracy.
