The BONEHAM P406JB is a press fit headless drill bushing designed to guide drill bits and other cutting tools with precise, repeatable accuracy in jig and fixture applications. Manufactured from steel hardened to 60 to 65 HRC, this bushing delivers the wear resistance required for production drilling environments. The headless design allows flush installation in applications where a flanged head would interfere with the workpiece or fixture plate. With an inside diameter of 11/32 inches and a body outside diameter of 5/8 inches, the P406JB meets ANSI standards and carries a P industry bushing code. Machinists, toolmakers, and fixture builders are the primary installers of this component.
This bushing is suited for use in drill jigs, machining fixtures, and production tooling setups where close-tolerance hole guidance is required. The press fit installation method seats the bushing securely into a reamed hole in the fixture plate without the need for locking collars or additional fasteners. At an overall length of 3/8 inches, the P406JB fits compact fixture designs where space behind the plate is limited. It is a non-renewable bushing, meaning it is intended as a permanent installation rather than a field-replaceable liner bushing.
Designed as a permanent press fit installation in drill jigs and machining fixtures requiring an 11/32-inch inside diameter headless drill bushing conforming to ANSI P-series dimensional standards.
Installation is performed by toolmakers or machinists using a press - hand or arbor - to drive the bushing into a reamed fixture hole sized to the bushing outside diameter tolerance. The receiving hole should be finish-reamed, not drilled, to achieve the interference fit required for secure seating. Because this is a non-renewable bushing, removal typically damages either the bushing or the fixture plate; plan the installation location carefully before pressing. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and ensure the fixture plate is supported squarely on the press bed during installation.
