The BONEHAM P406IW is a press fit headless drill bushing used to guide drill bits and cutting tools with precision in jig and fixture applications. It features an inside diameter of 0.332 inches, a body outside diameter of 5/8 inch, and an overall length of 3/8 inch. Manufactured from steel and hardened to 60 to 65 HRC, this bushing provides consistent bore alignment and long service life under repetitive drilling operations. The headless design allows flush installation in drill jigs where a protruding head would interfere with workpiece clamping or tool travel. Machinists, toolmakers, and fixture builders are the primary installers of this component.
This bushing is suited for use in precision drill jigs in both production machining and maintenance environments. The P industry code designates its dimensional series per ANSI standards, making it a direct fit in applications calling for a P-series press fit bushing. With an inside diameter tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0005 inches, it maintains close guidance clearance for standard Q-letter and 0.3320-inch decimal drill sizes. Typical applications include metalworking fixtures in manufacturing shops, toolrooms, and assembly operations requiring repeatable hole location.
Designed as an ANSI P-series press fit headless drill bushing compatible with drill jig plates bored to accept a 5/8-inch outside diameter press fit bushing. Guides drill, reamer, or boring tools at the 0.3320-inch (Q-letter) diameter.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolmaker using an arbor press to drive the bushing into a precision-bored jig plate hole sized for an interference fit. The jig plate bore should be machined to the appropriate tolerance to achieve the correct press fit without distorting the bushing ID. Do not hammer the bushing in with an unguided impact tool, as this can damage the bore geometry. Once pressed in, this bushing is not designed for removal and replacement — it is a permanent fixture component.
